I'm 23 years old. I've had problems with chronic diarrhea most of my life. I suspect it to be irritable bowel syndrome. I first started noticing hemorrhoids when I was 18 years old. I haven't really noticed that they have ever gone away completely. But gradually, they have gotten worse...I have one that has gotten to be kinda large when it's flared up, maybe about the size of an m&m candy. I very rarely see them bleed. They cause me a good bit of discomfort, but it isn't unbearable.When should I consider it bad enough to see a doctor (when I can't bear it, perhaps....)?What about treatment? Is rue care oil a joke? Do doctors steer people away from it? I'd like to avoid surgery if I can.I have diarrhea fairly often, so don't recommend that I get more fiber in my diet - that'd make my situation worse. I NEVER get constipated. I'm careful about not eating stuff that provokes diarrhea, but sometimes it's inevitable. IBS aside, suggestions for the hems?

Obviously not pregnant, but I have just recently had successful treatment for hemorrhoids which have plagued me for years. I tried creams etc and they just did not work and would come back regularly. If you are getting bleeding and bad soreness I suggest seeing your GP and asking about rubber band ligation. This is where they place tiny rubber bands around the base of the hemorrhoids and the lack of blood makes them fall off. It's done at hospital and takes about 15mins to do by a trained nurse. I won't go as far as to say pain free (plus it's different for everyone I guess) but I would say for a short period of discomfort the procedure is definitely worth it. This in combination with a high fibre diet and lots of water should keep you out of the woods. I am 6 weeks out from it and think it was the best decision ever. Good Luck

My midwife offered me suppositories. I used anusol. As the others have said you need to increase the fibre in your diet and plenty of fluids. Sorry for the many questions on hemorrhoids!So my doc's appointment got moved back to next week to look at my PROLAPSED hemorrhoid. Till then I am helping my body in the following ways:- Increase fiber + water intake.- Avoid going to the john until the "urge" hits. Then I breathe in and out to help avoid straining. I use wipes.- Adding bioflavoroids (sp?) to diet to strengthen veins.After starting this home treatment, I notice that when I have "proper" bowel movements (no hard stools, little straining, quick and dirty), I see less blood in the toilet, and less blood when wiping. Also, my hemorrhoid goes back in quicker and easier(shrinking?). Note: I said "when I have..." I try to have good bowel movements everytime, but occasionally I don't get enough water, or fiber, etc.As you may guess, I am not a fan of invasive surgery, hence the home treatment.
